Ainol Novo 7 Advanced vs. Novo7 Paladin Android 4.0 – Review Differences.

Ainol has made a big splash in the Tablet PC World since its released of th Novo 7 Basic, Advanced and Paladin. The first ran Android 2.3, the next Android 3.2 honeycomb. Only a month later, the Novo7 Paladin Android 4.0 version is out review.

Ainol, while the name is not very pleasant sounding in the English language, it increasingly becoming a Tablet PC name people on several Android forums have been talking about.

Ainol first released the Novo 7 Basic edition which ran Android 2.3. The 7 inch android tablet had capacitive touch screen, and 1GHz CPU. This Gingerbread tablet was quickly replaced by the Android 3.2 Honeycomb Novo7 Advanced edition. Both tablets basically have the same features and outer appearance.

The basic edition is no longer available. This is because after the 3.2 release, Ainol set its eyes on being the “First Ice Cream Sandwich tablet PC manufacturer.” I am not sure this is technically correct as Ramos, another China tablet PC and mp4 player manufacturer also has an Android 4.0 Ramos W6HD. We’ll get to the W6hd later.

The 1st Android 4.0 tablet is called the “Ainol Novo 7 Paladin.” The Paladin makes several upgrades on the advanced edition. First off, it is very apparent on the outer appearance that the paladin does not have any touch navigation button on the side. The bevel is also not as wide giving it a more compact look and feel.

On the inside, the Paladin makes upgrades as well. The advanced adopted A10 1.5GHz (current firmware running on 1.0GHz). I guess this means that in the future there will be a firmware update that allow the unit to run at 1.5GHz? This is kind of confusing.

http://www.wholesaleonepiece.com/images/v/201201/13264476590.jpg

The Paladin adopts cooler sound Xburst central processing unit. “1 GHz single-core MIPS-Based XBurst CPU / Vivante GC860 GPU clocked at 444MH,” is what the product description reads.

I am guessing the Advanced CPU will maybe clock at around 800mhz an the Paladin will clock at 1GHz, making the Paladin faster – this is only as guess though as I have not tested either unit – I have only touched and played with them.

Another difference between the two units is the android 4.0 version’s system requires it has a 8gb of built-in memory. The batteries in the units are both 4000mah allowing for “a standby time of 30 hours and continuous video playback time of 8 hours.” I have yet to test this either.

Now, to the last big difference between the two units. The advanced has dual cameras; a 2 mega pixel rear and a .2mp front camera and a free remote control. The Novo 7 Paladin does not have a web camera. Nor does it come with a remote control.

The advanced is only a few dollars more than the Paladin. I think the advanced will be upgradable in the near future. The fact that is has dual cameras probably will take the engineers a litle longer to release and Android 4.0 firmware update that supports the cameras and remote control.

The question now is, go for the more compact Ice Cream Sandwich tablet or the Honeycomb android tablet pc with dual cameras? Hard decision. I’ll let you decide which tablet is better.

Ainol Novo 7 Elf review and sales promotion price

May 7th 2012 Can a $150 tablet be any good? We recently had a chance to spend some quality time with the Ainol Novo 7 Elf, and, we must say, for the price, it’s an excellent tablet.

Almost everything is made in China these days. The combination of low cost resources and cheap labor seems to be an irresistible draw for most companies in the tech industry. Hot out of the furnace of an industrialized and modernized China, rises an unlikely competitor in the tablet arena. One that seeks to provide acceptable quality products at affordable prices. All that without the “bleeding edge” factor of high end products.

Ainol is a Chinese company, and when we heard that our friends at The Taken Shop were stocking some Ainol Novo 7 tablets, I jumped at the chance to do a review for all of you. Can cheap android tablet really be good? Let’s see.

http://www.wholesaleonepiece.com/images/v/201201/13264476590.jpg

Acceptably Fast

It is surprising that this device is fast and smooth, considering it’s powered by a single core Ice Cream Sandwich tablet. Frankly, it worked just like any dual-core tablet out there, except for an expected processor bottleneck when doing some more serious multitasking. The stock ROM is decent, and packs a punch. It’s equipped with the full Google services set, but the guys at The Taken Shop said that they could root your device and install a pure Google ROM instead. That’s pretty useful, since Chinese OEMs often struggle with poor software implementation.

Unlike other China-made tablets, the Ainol Novo 7 elf 7 inch android tablet comes with 1GB DDR3 RAM and a powerful Mali 400 GPU. That looks very impressive on paper, but it turns out average in real life. App switching is brilliant, but that CPU bottleneck does little for power users.

On the media side, the Novo 7 Elf puts many other tablets to shame as it plays 1080p videos perfectly – surprising, since the tablet’s display is a 1024×600 resolution. There’s no noticeable lag, and it’s a great entertainment device. Casual gaming is great on this tablet, though high-end 3D gaming will leave much to be desired.

Display

On its own, the display is fitting for daily use. It’s sharp and crisp, but the LCD falters in direct sunlight, but it’s not like you’ll use a tablet under the sun that much. The tablet’s screen is vibrant enough for web surfing and entertainment.
Connectivity

The Ainol Novo 7 Elf android 4.0 tablet only comes with WiFi. There’s no Bluetooth. There’s no 3G. If WiFi is all you need, then that’s great. You’ll either find yourself enjoying the simplicity of it, or you’ll be scrambling around for an internet connection. The bundled on-the-go USB cable does help a lot, though. There’s a 3.5mm jack for audio, as well as mini usb support and mini HDMI support.
Storage

The Novo 7 Elf has a basic 8GB internal storage, with about 5.8 GB of free storage. However, it supports a micro SD on the side of the tablet that lets you bump up the storage capacity with up to an additional 16GB.

Camera

This is one tablet without the extras. There’s no rear camera for any photography, which I must say is the right track. I think that’s it’s not practical nor fun to shoot photos and videos on a tablet. That’s what your smartphone is for. Instead, the Chinese were smart enough to incorporate a 2MP front facing camera that’s good enough for Skyping and video chatting.

Kindle Fire dominates US Android tablet sales

May 3rd 2012 Never underestimate the power of a cheap, well-marketed tablet like Amazon's Kindle Fire. According to Comscore, the Kindle Fire accounts for 54.4 percent of Android tablets sold in the United States.

No other Android tablet comes close in Comscore's figures. Samsung's entire Galaxy Tab lineup only has 15.4 percent of the Android market. Motorola's Xoom -- the first Android tablet on the market -- has only a 7 percent share.

But the numbers are skewed for one big reason: Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet and Nook Color are omitted from the measurements. Comscore considers those Nooks to be e-readers, not tablets -- even though they run apps, browse the Web, and play music and video on full color displays, just like the Kindle Fire.

http://www.wholesaleonepiece.com/images/v/201204/13349119390.jpg

Barnes & Noble would likely capture a sizable share if its slate was included. Before the Kindle Fire launched last year, the Nook Color was thesecond best-selling tablet on the market, behind Apple's iPad.

In any case, Comscore's numbers confirm what most tech watchers already assumed: Android tablet pc owe most of their success to the Kindle Fire and presumably the Nook tablets, which use heavily modified versions of open-source Android. Their interfaces are designed around simple media consumption, and their pricing starts at just $200, making them safe, low-budget alternatives to the iPad. A study from January found that Android's tablet share tripled to 39 percent in the fourth quarter, when Amazon and Barnes & Noble launched their tablets.

The success of the Kindle Fire and Nook tablets likely vexes Google, because its own app store and content services aren't available on those devices. Google is now trying to bolster its own ecosystem by re-branding it as "Google Play," and will likely launch its own low-cost, 7 inch android tablet this year.

That may be Google's best hope at gaining ground, because no best android tablet that's taking on the iPad directly is getting any traction.

Half of all Android tablets sold are Amazon's Kindle Fire

May 2nd 2012 Everyone’s busy talking about iPads dominating the tablet market shares, while there has been hardly any competition from Android tablet pc. Off late, however, Apple’s hold over the tablet market has been loosening and it has probably got something to do with the success of Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet. According to a report by Comscore, Amazon’s Kindle Fire now accounts for 54 percent of the Android tablet pc U.S market share, to be followed by Samsung’s Galaxy Tab family of tablets at a mere 15.4 percent, in comparison. The Kindle Fire’s market share went up by close to two times in just two months. Motorola’s Xoom and Asus’ Transformer tablets made up the third and fourth place respectively. All other manufacturers made up for tiny market shares in comparison to the rest.

http://www.wholesaleonepiece.com/images/v/201203/13315445970.jpg

There’s also an interesting trend in the U.S where majority of the users accessed the web using 10 inch android tablet. Looks like the trend here is - larger the screen, the more you’re likely to browse the web. The 10-inch tablet category has been dominated by the iPads, while the 7-inch tablets is dominated by the Kindle Fire. If Amazon’s Kindle Fire continues this way, there’s likely to be bigger shift in market shares. Amazon is already said to be working on three new models. While the Kindle Fire was an affordable 7 inch android tablet, one of the three new models is said to be based on a 1920x1080 panel on a 8.9-inch display. This kind of resolution makes it very similar to the new iPad. Of course, this high-end model is unlikely to be priced at anywhere close to the existing Kindle Fire, but even if it’s placed somewhere between it and the new iPad, it’s likely to see a lot of buyers.

With no official announcement, an expected date or pricing, it’s too early to say how well it’ll do. One thing’s for sure though, if any other companies want to make a mark in the android tablet space, there are lessons to be learnt from Amazon.
